Six rules every Seeker should follow
Follow these and you'll avoid the vast majority of rental scams in Nigeria.
Never pay before you visit
- Inspect the property in person before any money changes hands.
- Never send a deposit, reservation fee or 'processing fee' to a Lister you have not met at the property.
Fleemu staff never collect payment
- Report any caller claiming to be Fleemu staff who asks for money.
- Do not share card details, OTPs or bank codes with anyone over the phone.
Inspect with someone
- Bring a friend or family member to every inspection and share the address beforehand.
- Don't meet a stranger at a property alone, especially in the evening.
Meet at the real property
- Confirm the address matches the listing before you travel.
- Don't agree to meet at a 'different location', a bus stop, an agent's office or a neutral spot.
Never let anyone rush you
- Take your time to compare options and ask questions.
- Don't fall for 'three other people are viewing it today' pressure to pay a deposit on the spot.
Get everything in writing
- Ask for tenancy terms, receipts and repair agreements in writing — inside the chat, where they are recorded.
- Don't rely on verbal promises alone; a phone call is not a contract.

One listing per property
We detect duplicate listings across the platform. A property can only be listed once — no copycats, no double-scamming.
Secure in-platform messaging
Chat stays inside Fleemu. Your phone number and email are never shown until you choose to reveal them, and every message is AI-moderated for scams and spam.
Report & block
Report a suspicious Lister or message directly from the chat. You can block anyone at any time — they won't be able to contact you again.
Human review team
Reports and flagged content reach our moderation team, who review and act — often within hours.

If you notice any of these, stop and report the Lister immediately. It's always better to walk away.
- The Lister asks you to pay a deposit or fee before inspection.
- The Lister pushes to continue the conversation on WhatsApp or a phone call only.
- The price is suspiciously low compared to similar properties in the same area.
- The Lister claims to be abroad and asks you to 'handle the keys' via a courier.
- The property photos look like stock images or another website's listing.
- The Lister cannot produce proof of ownership or authorization to let.
- You are pressured to decide 'today' because 'others are interested'.
Step by step
How to rent safely on Fleemu.com
1. Search verified listings only
Every published listing has passed automated and human review. Look for the verified badge and check the Lister's profile.
2. Inspect in person
Book an inspection through the platform. Meet the Lister at the property, bring someone, and verify it matches the photos.
3. Keep the conversation on Fleemu
Use in-platform chat so there's a record. Be cautious of anyone who insists on moving the conversation off-platform immediately.
4. Document the agreement
Confirm rent, tenure, fees and notice periods in writing. Request a signed receipt for every payment.
5. Report anything suspicious
If something feels off, report the Lister from the chat and block them. Our team will review within hours.

Common safety questions
Does Fleemu.com collect rent or deposits on behalf of Listers?
No. Fleemu.com never collects rent, deposits or agency fees from Seekers. All payments are settled directly between you and the Lister, in person, after inspection.
What happens if I spot a fake or duplicate listing?
Use the report button on the listing or in the chat. Our AI also scans uploads for duplicates continuously — flagged listings are pulled down and reviewed by our team.
Can a Lister see my phone number or email?
Not until you choose to reveal them. Contact happens through secure in-platform messaging first. A 'Reveal phone' option exists, but only when you tap it.
What should I do if a Lister asks me to pay before viewing?
Do not pay. Report the Lister immediately from the chat and block them. This is against our rules and the listing will be removed.
How are Listers verified?
Listers complete phone verification and provide professional information before they can publish. Verified Listers carry a badge on their profile and listings.
